Jakarta vs Bogor vs Bandung Golf: Courses, Climate and Travel

Choosing between Jakarta, Bogor and Bandung golf comes down to three things: the courses you want to play, how much heat you can handle and how far you are willing to travel. Jakarta has the tournament courses, Bogor is a cooler hill escape about an hour away, and Bandung is the highest and coolest of the three.

Zora Golf Travel was founded in Jakarta in 2024 by golfers with 250+ combined rounds, and builds trips across all three destinations. This comparison sets out the climate, travel time, course character and trip style of each, so you can decide where to play or how to combine them.

Jakarta: Tournament Courses on Your Doorstep

Jakarta has the deepest choice of courses and the most tournament history. Royale Jakarta hosted the Indonesian Masters on the Asian Tour from 2011 to 2024, and Pondok Indah hosted the 2025 Indonesia Open [6][7].

What Jakarta Offers

  • Seaside layouts at Damai Indah PIK and Sedayu Indo Golf in North Jakarta
  • Floodlit night golf at Senayan Golf Club, 17:00 to 23:00 [8]
  • Short transfers from a city hotel, traffic permitting
  • Indonesia's oldest golf club at Rawamangun, founded in 1872

The Trade-Off

Jakarta is the hottest of the three, with an average high of 32.5 °C [1]. Rounds start early in the morning to beat the heat. The guide to golf courses in Jakarta covers every club in the city.

Bogor: Cooler Hill Golf an Hour Away

Bogor sits about 53 km south of Jakarta along the Jagorawi toll road, at roughly 265 m [1][2]. The average high of 30 °C makes mornings a little more comfortable than in the city [1].

Courses in Bogor

Klub Golf Bogor Raya is a Graham Marsh design at about 1,000 ft, with pines, rivers and a signature par-3 17th that carries 175 m over a ravine [9]. Jagorawi Golf & Country Club has 45 holes, and Zora holds authorised tee-time access there [10]. Golf in Bogor covers the full set of courses.

The Trade-Off

Bogor is known as the City of Rain, with about 4,000 mm a year [1]. Weekend traffic towards Puncak can slow the drive at Ciawi and Gadog, where police run a one-way scheme [3].

Is Bogor or Bandung better for golf?

Bandung is cooler and has the more dramatic mountain courses, while Bogor is closer to Jakarta and easier as a day trip. Bandung averages a high of 28.9 °C against 30 °C in Bogor, and it is far drier. Bogor suits a short trip, and Bandung suits golfers happy to stay overnight.

Both are often added to a Jakarta trip rather than played on their own [1].

Bandung: The Highest and Coolest Option

Bandung sits at about 700 to 770 m, with an average high of 28.9 °C and a low of 19.9 °C [1]. It is the coolest of the three destinations and much drier than Bogor [1].

Courses in Bandung

Parahyangan Golf is a 7,298-yard JMP design along the ravines and edge of Saguling Lake, named Best New Golf Course in Asia in 2020 [11]. Dago Heritage 1917 began as a 9-hole course in 1917 and sits at 950 to 1,065 m, one of Indonesia's hilliest layouts [12]. Mountain View Golf Club, by Peter Thomson and Ross Perrett, looks out over the mountains and the city [13].

Getting There

The road trip from Jakarta takes about three hours, and longer at weekends [4]. The Whoosh high-speed train runs from Halim to Tegalluar in about 35 to 47 minutes, with stops including Padalarang near Parahyangan, but the road from Tegalluar to central Bandung can take about an hour [4][5]. Golf in Bandung has more on each course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it cooler to play golf in Bandung than Jakarta?

Yes. Bandung sits at about 700 to 770 m and averages a high of 28.9 °C and a low of 19.9 °C, against 32.5 °C and 25.5 °C in Jakarta. Dago Heritage 1917 is higher still at 950 to 1,065 m, so mornings on the Bandung courses feel noticeably fresher than in the city.

Bandung is also drier than Bogor, with August its driest month.

Can you do Bogor golf as a day trip from Jakarta?

Yes, Bogor is about 53 km south of Jakarta, and the drive takes about 60 to 90 minutes off-peak along the Jagorawi toll road. An early start lets you play a morning round and return to Jakarta the same afternoon. Avoid weekend afternoons, when Puncak traffic slows the road near Ciawi and Gadog.

Staying a night in the hills makes a two-round Bogor visit easier.

How do you get from Jakarta to Bandung for golf?

The two options are road and high-speed rail. The drive takes about three hours via the Cipularang toll, longer at weekends. The Whoosh train runs from Halim to Tegalluar in about 35 to 47 minutes, with stops including Padalarang, but the road from Tegalluar to central Bandung can add about an hour.

Parahyangan Golf is reached via the Padalarang exit of the Cipularang toll.

Which destination has the best golf courses?

Each has a different strength: Jakarta has the most tournament history, with Royale Jakarta, Pondok Indah and Damai Indah all hosting Asian Tour events. Bandung has Parahyangan Golf, named Indonesia's Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards in 2020 and 2023. Bogor offers cooler highland golf closest to the city.

Many golfers combine two destinations on one trip.
